Having Children Changes Everything…. In Wonderful Ways

Having Children Changes Everything…. In Wonderful Ways

I’m very fortunate to have become a father for the third time in July. Each birth has brought new and surprising challenges, and each represents a period of time in both my life and the lives of my growing family. I’ve spoken to good friends who admit they never imagined having children, it just happened. This was not my experience as I had always pictured having two children. Why two? I’m not sure exactly, I guess it seemed like a manageable number (man on man defense). Here I sit, reflecting on the newness of having three healthy and happy children and wondering how I could live without the joy they bring to my life. In my youthful visions of my future accomplishments I’d imagined many great business success stories and awards. The admiration of my industry and peer group were high on the list. The truth is the accomplishment I feel from watching my children learn and grow is more fulfilling than any award or business conquest I can think of. Having children changes everything, thankfully.

Grinding the Gears

Grinding the Gears

Stress – We have all felt the full weight of this word pressed upon us by countless sources, doctors, spouses, coworkers, life. What many of us feel in our bones but don’t acknowledge to ourselves is that we carry around the cumulative stress of our lives and it wears us down. The prior four months of my life have lead me to the my current state of being, depressed. Not clinically but more in the sense of metaphysical weight on my shoulders. My course of action to resolve this current state is to make changes. I’m changing where I work (building a home office) and how I work. I’m hiring a personal trainer and making an appointment to see a therapist. I’ve already had a physical and I spoken extensively about my change plan with my wife. Without her support, none of this change would have even a slight chance of success. It’s funny, just writing about all this change has helped to lighten the weight, even if just slightly.
